What is IREB?

IREB is the abbreviation fot the International Requirements Engineering Board. Thus, the question should really be: "Who is IREB?". IREB is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to the education of requirement engineers and wants to promote further education in this field.

Independent and internationally acknowledged experts from the fields of industry, consulting, research and education joined forces in 2006, in order to contribute their experiences to the development of a standard for requirements engineering. The CPRE (Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering) certification model is meant for persons who deal with business analysis or requirements engineering and have high demands for the quality of their work. The CPRE Foundation level is the starting point of the certification model. Since 2007, over 24.000 persons in 60 countries have passed the CPRE Foundation Level exam.

Why is requirements engineering important?

Requirements engineering provides the basis for project and service development. If there are no appropriately elicited and aligned requirements, the objectives of the client will not be achieved which often leads to costly corrective measures later on. Professional requirements engineering creates a transparent basis for communication for all stakeholders.

The CPRE FL certification

Owners of the CPRE FL certificate are familiar with the terminology of requirements engineering / business analysis and requirements management. They understand the basic techniques and methods of requirements engineering and their application. They also know the current notations for requirements.
